What is palliative care?

Palliative care, sometimes called end of life care, is specialist support for people living with progressive or terminal illnesses. It focuses on relief from pain and distressing symptoms, emotional support and practical help, rather than on curing the illness.

Our carers provide palliative care at home so that, where possible, people can remain in familiar surroundings, close to the people and things they love. We work alongside families and other professionals to maximise comfort and quality of life for as long as possible.

Who is palliative care for?

We support adults over and under 65 who are living with serious, often progressive conditions.

Palliative care may be appropriate when:

  • A condition is life‑limiting or has become more advanced.

  • Symptoms such as pain, breathlessness, agitation or fatigue are affecting daily life.

  • Staying at home, rather than in hospital or a care home, is important to the person and their family.

  • Family or existing carers are finding it hard to provide enough support alone.

We commonly support people with:

  • Cancer and other progressive illnesses

  • Advanced heart or lung disease

  • Neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s or motor neurone disease

  • Dementia and other complex conditions

Options for palliative care at home

We can offer a range of palliative and end of life care services, tailored to what you and your family need.

1 — Visiting palliative care

Regular daytime visits to help with personal care, medication prompting, meals, hygiene and companionship, alongside emotional reassurance.

2 — Night‑time support

Waking or sleeping night sits to support with pain, anxiety, breathlessness or confusion, and to give family carers a chance to rest.

3 — 24‑hour live‑in palliative care

A professional carer lives in the home to provide continuous support, including personal and hygiene care, domestic help, mobility assistance and specialist palliative support, so someone is always there.

Note: “We can also offer short‑term respite care for existing family carers who are providing palliative care at home.”

Supporting both the person and those around them

Serious illness affects everyone involved. Our carers offer practical help, a listening ear and gentle guidance for family and friends, helping them feel less alone and overwhelmed.
We work collaboratively with nurses, GPs, specialist palliative teams and other professionals, following agreed care plans and sharing appropriate updates, so that care is joined‑up and focused on the person’s wishes.

Why choose live‑in palliative care?

When needs are high, live‑in care provides a level of consistency and closeness that is hard to achieve with visiting care alone.
